Thank you, but NO thank you.

My latest Instagram post unfortunately has resulted into a few unsolicited advice so I thought a blog post would be the best way to approach it. Number 1, because well I get to update my blog. Haha! Number 2, it can cover everyone's unsolicited advice and number 3, I avoid a direct confrontation that might turn ugly. Although, I did respond to some directly and did my best to be polite about it. This post however might be a bit brash because well.. that is what I really feel about the advises.

Each and every one of us is going through some shit one way or another and it goes double sometimes triple for moms. Because while going through shit, you are responsible for one whole being. Their psychological, emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and moral upbringing is all on you (well, until they turn 18 at least). Imagine shouldering all of that while going through the daily motions of life. And for other moms, they have 2 or 3 or 4 or more kids!

Long story short, being a mom is hard work and it can be very difficult, some days more difficult than others. Those are the days that no matter what you do, you couldn't win. Then you end up frustrated and angry and frustrated and angry and.. you know what I mean. Some of us (moms) we snap and we sometimes do things that aren't exactly the best way to handle things. I've seen it. At school, in a jeepney, neighbor's house, a grocery store, Jollibee (joskoh!), a shopping mall, a toy store (joskoh part 2!) and many more. Maybe there are others who NEVER snap, I don't know.. are you guys human?! Hehehe.. What drugs are you guzzling? ^_^

Despite the countless meltdowns of children that I have witnessed (you get more aware of other kids if you become a parent), I have never ever judged a fellow mom or made assumptions. And I have NEVER ever gave unsolicited advice on how she should handle or talk to or discipline her child/children. Because despite all the good intentions, that can be very damaging to a fellow mother. It is hurtful because to correct me implies that I am doing something wrong with my parenting. To give unsolicited advice implies that you think what I am doing is not enough or not good enough. I always feel horrible if a fellow mom (especially my own mom) do this to me. I would always feel insecure, scared and feel inadequate as a Nanay. Which of course makes me, ironically, an inefficient mom.

Because a sad, insecure mom cannot be a good mom. So by giving unsolicited advice you're actually just making things worse for me and for my child/ren.

Also, what you see in my post is nothing but a glimpse. A GLIMPSE! You guys weren't there when I comforted my son while he was grieving for the loss of his dad (he isn't dead but he is gone), you weren't there when I read to him bedtime stories or when we have tickle fights. You guys weren't there when I cooked him spaghetti or when I stayed up all night checking up on him when he was sick. You guys didn't see how I hugged him when he fell down and scraped his knee nor were you there when I cheered him on during school activities. I could go on and on because truly, the whole picture is so so so MUCH BIGGER and so much brighter. :)

This doesn't mean that I don't ask for advice. I do. ALL THE TIME. I ask his pediatrician, dentist, his teachers, fellow moms in school, my own mom and aunts and our very own therapist who I might add is a specialist on child psychiatry. So I am covered, thank you very much. Hahaha!

So, please please please. Try not to send me any more unsolicited advice in the future. It comes off as a little condescending really. I don't like it and I don't want it. And next time you do, I am not going to be nice or polite anymore. My cuss word vocabulary is quite extensive, I will be using that in full capacity. (wink, wink)

So to everyone that PMed me: Thank you, but NO thank you.

Guimaras 2015: Tatlong Pulo

After 9 years my family and I went back to Tatlong Pulo for our family summer vacation and to celebrate Nanay Jo's birthday. ^__^ Yay! I really thought we couldn't do a summer getaway this year so despite our financial troubles I'm glad me and Tuka were able to tag along in this trip. Hehehehe.. ^__^

HOW TO GET THERE

First from Iloilo City we went to Ortiz and took a pump boat ride to Jordan Wharf. Jordan is the main port and entry to Guimaras Island. Tickets cost Php14/person and pump boats are available from Monday-Sunday. However, if you are planning on bringing your car along, you're gonna have to go through a different port, I think they call it Guimaras Roro. My family and I did that in the past however, I did not make any of the arrangements so I don't know much about the details.

If you're not from Iloilo, there are no direct flights to Guimaras so you're gonna have to go to Iloilo first then Guimaras.

At Jordan we rented a multi-cab that would take us to the rough road leading to Tatlong Pulo. The road going to the beach is a bit steep so multi-cabs and tricycles don't enter the road anymore. From the main road we have to do a 40-minute trek then viola! THE BEACH! ^__^

I've been to Tatlong Pulo thrice before. The first time we rented a jeep so there was no trekking involved. The second time we were riding my uncle's 4x4 so again no trekking needed. The third time I was with friends (RGs) and we neither have the money to rent a jeep nor were we old enough to drive anything so we did the short trek.

Doing the trek back then was easy. Doing the trek while carrying a lazy 13-kilo toddler in his terrible twos was a total NIGHTMARE. T__T It was horrible. He wouldn't let me rest. If I stop and put him down he would throw a fit and he was too lazy to walk on his own. Huhuhu.. :(

Overall though, the whole trek was an experience that was horrible, exhausting and enjoyable all at the same time. I guess for Nanays like me, we should take fits and tantrums with a grain of salt, It's the only way to survive. Hehehe.. Besides, vacations with Tuka is 10 times more fulfilling (and exhausting). Hahaha! ^__^

You can skip the trek if you want though. You can either rent a jeepney, bring your own car or ride a pump boat straight to the island. Your pick. Multi-cabs cost Php500 one way and pump boats cost Php1500 one way. So if you're in a tight budget, doing the trek is a must. :)

THE ISLANDS

There are 3 cottages available in Tatlong Pulo. Entrance fee is Php150/person per day. My family and I stayed for 3 days and 2 nights so that's Php300/person total. No additional fees for the use of the cottage.

You can bring your own food, no additional payment for corkage and you can also order food from the caretakers in charge of the resort. One medium-sized kaldero of cooked rice is Php60, ice is Php4/piece, one native chicken cooked adobo or tinola is Php300 and labor is Php250. Labor includes cooking, buying ice, buying drinking water, taking your garbage etc.. You can also borrow plates and utensils, pillows and banig and other needs.

We did a bit of both. We brought our own food and at the same time ordered from the caretakers. We also grilled some pork by ourselves but the chicken dishes were cooked by the caretakers. Since I have a toddler, I always bring our own water for safety reasons. And since the cottage wasn't big enough for everyone we also brought tents, sleeping bags and duyans to make our accommodations more comfortable.

THINGS TO DO

Swimming and snorkeling of course! The water is clean and the caretakers clean the shores during the afternoons so you can also sunbathe if you're okay with the summer heat in the Philippines. The beach is a bit rocky so we wear our slippers when we swim. If you have aqua shoes (only Tuka has one in our family) then you can wear those. The reef is actually very healthy, it wasn't always like that. 9 years ago snorkeling in Tatlong Pulo would have been uneventful but now the reef is blooming! I ain't kidding. The water is not as clear as Bora or Palawan admittedly (not enough sponges maybe?) but the reef is at par. Give it a few more years then it might be as colorful. :) So bring your snorkel gear when you visit the place.

You can also rent the small banka the caretakers own for Php250 so you can go kayaking if you want. There's a small cave at the right side of the island or you can go to the islet in front of the main island. During low tides, you can swim or walk there but that would mean stepping on some of the corals so kayaking during high tide is a better option. :)

You can go island hopping as well if you want. You can explore the island - go to the lighthouse etc., you can have a bonfire at night or you can just hang out at the beach - relax and do nothing. We did all of the above. Hehehe.. :)

During early afternoons, it's usually pretty hot so the kids don't swim or snorkel. They'll either take a nap or siesta, eat snacks under the shade, or just hang out and play (usually with the sand).

THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS

It's a beautiful place and the reef was great for avid snorkelers like me. Tuka and I even had a run-in with a sea snake that nearly gave me a heart attack. The place isn't crowded so you can really relax and to top it all - it's very affordable. So yeah, I would like to come back again.

BUT... There's no electricity in the island. So, if you have teenagers that are in to gadgets, bring a power bank. Bring mosquito repellents for everybody since mosquitoes can be a pest at night. If you have toddlers, bring your own drinking water to be on the safe side. AND if your kids need a cool environment in order to sleep, be ready for a night of fanning them. Hehehe.. :)

My family can rough it out so Tatlong Pulo is fine for us. But if your family isn't in to that then this island is not for you. ;)

For Tuka, I just brought the usual summer gear. A sunblock (age appropriate), long sleeved wet suit, off lotion, our own water, snacks, milk needs, clothes, diapers and other toiletries and of course aqua shoes.

It was exhausting but definitely worth it. I had fun, Tuka had fun, H and I didn't fight and was able to work really well together during the entire vacation and from what I can see we're getting better at this whole family vacation thing. Definitely a big improvement from our family summer vacation of last year. Hehehe.. :)

Guimaras 2015: Land Tour

A couple of family friends from Japan came to visit a week ago and they wanted to see Guimaras but did not want to swim so we decided to do a land tour instead of the usual island hopping tour.

I've been to Guimaras many times but I've never done a land tour before. The only time I went to Guimaras without any plans of swimming or snorkeling was when me and my family visited my Grandfather's farm (next to Oro Verde - the mango plantation).

So, this was a new and exciting experience for me albeit exhausting. :)

NEED-TO-KNOWs

To get to Guimaras, first we went to Ortiz Wharf in Iloilo City and from there had a 15-minute pumpboat ride to Jordan Wharf (main port of Guimaras). The tickets cost Php14/person.

In Jordan we went to the tourism office, registered ourselves and received a pamphlet about the tour that we were about to have.

Our transportation was a tricycle and our driver was named Michael and you can contact him through (+63)908-324-6835. The land tour cost Php1200 if you exclude the trip to The Windmills and Php1500 if you include it. This rate is good for a maximum of 4 people and a maximum of 8 hours only.

The land tour includes a visit to the following places: The Windmills, Guisi Beach and Lighthouse, Balaan Bukid Shrine, Raymen's Beach Resort, Valle Verde Mountain Resort, Trappist Monastery, Family Holy Hills, The Smallest Plaza, San Miguel and the biggest Mango Plantation in the island.

THE PLACES

We went to the smallest plaza first, nothing interesting really. It's just an ordinary plaza only it's very small. So if I was gonna do the land tour again, I'm gonna skip this one out. Then we went to Holy Family Hills which was nice and interesting for our Japanese visitors. They learned more about the most popular religion in the country and more about our culture in the process.

We visited The Windmills next which for me was the most interesting part of the tour. The windmills were huge and pretty awesome. I haven't done any research about this upcoming project in Guimaras but I have to admit I was impressed with the 27 windmills that they have built so far. Whether it's truly for the people or not however remains to be seen.

Next, we went to the Trappist Monastery. Lighted some candles and offered a prayer for our families. Checked out the property and bought some mango based products. After that we went the biggest mango plantation in the island then off to Raymen's for lunch.

We did not do any swimming because our visitors weren't very fond of the very hot weather. They were concerned with their skin, they felt hot and one of our visitors felt a bit sick during lunch time.

We ate Filipino food at Raymen's so that our friends could experience them. Drank cold beer to cool down a bit and then we're off again, this time to Guisi.

We skipped the Balaan Bukid Shrine because the trek isn't something our friends can do without feeling exhausted afterwards and we also skipped Valle Verde because our friends are bit old for the zipline. Hehehe.. ^__^

In Guisi, we visited the lighthouse, went down to the water so that one of our friends can try and take some underwater photos and drank some more refreshments. It was frickin hot that day, I think 34-36 degrees (?).

THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS

This was my first land tour of Guimaras. It was new and refreshing for me so despite some 'issues' I really did enjoy the tour. It was different and so it was exciting for me. However, from the many water adventures that I've had in Guimaras the land tour pales in comparison.

I would recommend this tour for young peepz, who don't lack sleep (I haven't had a decent night's sleep since I became a Mom), likes adventure and road trips, likes roughing it out (the tricycle ride is a bit bumpy and hot) and of course those who are in a tight budget.

I would not recommend this tour for families with young kids. I doubt I would survive this tour if I brought Tuka along. It would have been torture. Besides, I think kids will like the island tours more.

Overall, I give it 3 stars out of 5 since I'm nice that way. Hehehe..

So, there you have it. My land tour experience.

I need to update this blog. It's been so long. I didn't even post a holiday entry. HUHUHU!! T_T I wanted to so so bad especially since Tuka's Christmas presents were AWESOME this year but when 2015 started, I've been buried neck-deep in work. (sigh)

So, I'm posting an entry under my "conversations" segment. It's simple, easy to write and I can post it in no time. Easy peasy. Blog updated. Hehehe.. ^__^

I will post an uber late holiday entry though. I really want to make an entry on Tuka's presents. They were all so cool.. Hehehe.. But that entry will take time. I have to take pictures, write captions, edit them etc.. So, I might do that after Dinagyang or something. Hehehe..

Anyway, here are some of my conversations with H. We're not the best couple in town and we're going through some ~~shit~~ stuff right now but H and I, we talk about everything and after 10 years, there is no one I feel more comfortable talking to other than H.

Wassssup November?

I have no reason why my entry title is like that. Other than the fact that November is just a couple of days away, I have nothing awesome planned this coming November. To be honest my life has been pretty calm lately. Which is a bit surprising considering there were so many huwaaat?-the-fuck!-really? moments recently.

Anyway, the MAIN reason why I wanted to post an update is because (drum roll please) - I FINALLY HAVE INSTAGRAM! Booyeah! I know I'm several years too late but nonetheless I want it known all throughout the blogosphere that Amihan is finally a bit more high tech. Hehehe..

Unfortunately for me though, I didn't get the Sony Xperia like I originally planned. Someone gave/gifted me a smart phone (a Samsung Galaxy S III) and since it seemed rude to throw away such a gift, I decided to keep it. For one very important reason. You got it - INSTAGRAM!

Other than that, I wanted to make a big shout out to all the people that got my back when I was at my lowest: THANK YOU. ^___^ I LABS YOU ALL SO SO SOOOOO MUCH! CYBER HUGS!!

Me and H are not officially back together YET. He asked for a second chance (I would have loved to type the words beg instead of ask but my politically correct side kept getting in the way! Pfft!), we are working things out. For one very important reason and no the answer is not Instagram this time. It's Tuka. A chance to give him a complete family. We owe him at least that. (wow so serious!)

What else? Oh yeah, I'm working again. Fortunately for me though, I have a babysitter/nanny now so it's a bit easier compared before. So far, so good. I hope she stays.

I'm still toying with the idea of working abroad. My family is insisting it would do me a lot of good if I travel and explore a bit. But... but... leaving Tuka makes me wanna cry. Hehehe..

Also, I really really want to take on political work again. But having a full-time job, a baby, a sister and a house to manage already takes up most of my time. I don't know how others do it. I need to do something about this - soon.

As for Tuka, he's getting bigger and more gwapo everyday. Have you seen his pictures? Do I have good genes or what? ^__^ I'll probably do a Tuka update very soon. We've had a couple more vaccines, a few health bumps and new faves.

For now though, just some random updates here and there. xx

on heartbreaks and moving on

When Kent and I broke up, I went through the usual typical "brokenhearted" process.

First, I got mad. I got really really angry. How dare he break my heart just like that? How dare he toss me aside like I'm some piece of garbage? How fucking dare he? I would flood txt him saying, "I hate you. I hate you." over and over again. Petty, I know but I was young and didn't know any better.

Then I got sad. I felt empty and alone. I felt like the loneliness was eating me up, it was drowning me. I would cry myself to sleep every single night. I would cry every time I listen to music. Which is funny because at that time I usually listen to NU107. So, imagine me bawling my eyes out while listening to, Hey megalomaniac, You're no Jesus, Yeah you're no fucking Elvis. I mean, what the fuck Mi? But I did that. I cried and cried and cried.

And then, I became desperate. I would contact him and I would say sorry. That it was all my fault. That I wanted us to get back together. (looooong sigh) I wish now that I hadn't done that. I wish I had more dignity but alas that's what I did.

Until finally, I started to move on. Truly move on. Until one day I realized being with Kent isn't that important anymore and that I didn't feel alone anymore. Then slowly, I started to feel happy again.

After that I felt like I had it made. I survived. No break-up can cripple me again. I know now what to do and what not to do if I ever have a failed relationship again. I felt like I have mastered the art of breaking up and moving on. Oh yeah, I'm da bomb!

BUT when H told me he wasn't coming back, I've never felt more lost. I was dumbfounded. I couldn't wrap my head around what happened. I couldn't accept it. I didn't want to accept it.

So here I am, after 10 years and one beautiful son, brokenhearted once more. Still as lost, as sad, as empty, as alone, as desperate like the first time it happened. I never had it made and I never mastered anything.

10 books FB challenge

I wasn't tagged. Huhuhu.. :( Serves me right though for not being an avid Facebooker (?).

Anyway, the rules are simple, post 10 books that have stayed with you through the years and/or have affected you in some way. You shouldn't think about it too long and the list of books doesn't have to be "right" or great works of literature. Then you get to tag other people to do the same. I'm doing mine in blogger so I can't really tag anyone.

Anyhoo, here's my list and the reasons why.

1. A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer

Accounts of a boy abused by his mother. I read it when I was 6 or 7 months pregnant with Tuka which was a horrible horrible idea. I was bored one night, saw the book lying in the living room, picked it up and started reading. I finished it in one sitting. I cried the whole time. THE WHOLE TIME. No exaggeration. The hormones didn't help. Hehehe..

2. The Client by John Grisham

1st novel I've ever read. I was in 3rd grade and it took me a month to finish it. I had to regularly check words in the dictionary and had to talk to some grown-ups about law in order to fully understand the book. I remember feeling that it was a huge accomplishment that I was able to finish and understand the book. :)

3. Laro sa Baga by Edgardo Reyes

1st Filipino novel I've ever read. I was in 6th grade. Not a good choice looking back at it now. It was hard for me to understand and harder still to appreciate. I was too young. I haven't been in love, no sexual experience, no interest at all with the opposite sex. But it was an eye opener. It introduced me to Filipino literature (aside from those discussed in school) and introduced me to a world I had no idea or knowledge about. It was a learning experience.

Note: If any readers want to try reading Filipino lit, try the works of Lualhati Bautista, Prof. Jose Maria Sison and Jose F. Lacaba. Better than the one mentioned above. Haha! :)

4. Nancy Drew Series

Of course! I was young once. I was addicted to this series. I read every single one from IBAM (International Books and Magazines Club). I used to blow my school money on Nancy Drew. It was light, it was enjoyable, Nancy was kick ass awesome and it's a perfect way to relax after a hellish day from school.

5. The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller

This book is connected to a confession made by a family member. And that's all I'm willing to say.

6. The Young Idiana Jones Chronicles

My mom bought me these. It made me want to travel. Made me want to see the world and have adventures. Made me interested in archaeology. I wanted to dig up really really old people and study them. Nyahahaha!

A compilation of short stories told by Eva Luna. Beautifully written. I remember thinking that the words Allende used to make these stories were perfect. Like the words belonged there. It was meant to be there. I didn't even feel that way while reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

8. Philippine Society and Revolution - Amado Guerrero

It felt like a light bulb was turned on. Suddenly, many things made sense. I understood what must be done and why it must be done. Cheka! But true.

9. The Color Purple by Alice Walker

The way it was written was different and it was a first for me. It was empowering and the book had a happy ending. I'm a sucker for those.

10. Colours by Jan Pienkowski

Tuka's 1st ever favorite book. This was the book that made Tuka interested in 'reading'. He would take this book from our shelf (lowest shelf is for Tuka) and give it to me so we could read it. Every single day for about 2 months. I owe Pienkowski big time.

Note: Unfortunately, Tuka has already moved on. His current fave is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

So there you have it. Most of them can't really be considered great works but these are the ones that have sentimental value for me. A personal connection.

Political books are important but I have to be honest these books are also hard to grasp. You have to study them, sometimes over and over again until you get a headache. Sometimes it would take years to fully understand a particular book. So only one got included in my list. Thumbs up for Joma. Haha!

LET IT BE SEPTEMBER

The 'BER' season is here! Hoorah once again!

If you read Joy the Baker, then you might find that today's entry title is a bit familiar. I don't usually read her 'let it be' entries since it doesn't involve a lot of cooking or a lot of pictures of yummy treats but I like the idea and for today I'm gonna borrow it.

I'm not sure if we have the same 'feels' for the 'let it be' entry but I'll try to explain mine to make this entry a bit clearer.

This month is full of change for me and I know most people say that change is usually for the better and I am hoping they're right. Nonetheless, change is scary and for my part it hurts - a lot. But the change is going to happen whether I like it or not, and so, for this month I am going to let time and change run its course. I'm gonna let things happen organically (for lack of a better term) and I'm gonna let things be.

I will be turning 26 and although I'm not really in a partying mood I am embracing my birthday with open arms as I always have and always will in many years to come. To a wiser, prettier and sexier (as I've said no humble brags here) me - TAGAY SA TAGUMAY! ^__^

Tuka will be turning a year and a half this month and I am already thinking up plans for his 2nd birthday. Hahaha! ^__^ He's growing up so fast and I realize I don't want to rush parenting anymore. If he still wants to hold my hand while walking, I let him. If he still wants to sit on my lap while watching television, I let him. I have decided to take parenting in a slower, much more enjoyable pace. To parenting that continues to evolve and improve - TAGAY SA TAGUMPAY! Hehehe..

I will be going back to work as well and I am entertaining the idea of working abroad. Partly for Tuka, financial stability is a must now that I have a son to think of. Partly for me, I need to find myself again, to re-learn how to do things on my own and to simply 'get out there'.

For others who might be going through some changes as well, here's to us! May September be kind to our ongoing transition.. xx

my online life

Tuka is asleep and I don't want to wash the dirty dishes yet. We have lazy weather today. ^__^

Everyone is on the internet and that includes me. I don't know what most people do online and I'm not sure I even want to know but it's an interesting subject so I thought I'll blog about where I 'hang-out' when I'm online. I know most people stay logged-in in Facebook for hours but I don't. Especially nowadays, so many idiots online it makes me wanna cry. Hehehe.. Kidding! Well.. not really. ^___^

Anyhoo, when I was still employed, every time (and I mean EVERY TIME) I open my laptop, I usually check my e-mail (gmail), then log-in to our company's pipeline, then open google translate, google define and google images. All of these for work.

Once I'm settled, then I do a more personal online surfing. Now, that I don't work anymore, all my surfing activities are personal. I haven't opened my gmail for months. Feels good. Hehehe.. :) So, here are some sites that I frequently visit...

BLOGS

I like blogs and I'm an avid blog hopper. But there are 5 blogs that I visit and check almost everyday. That includes my own. Hahahaha!! ^__^ I like boosting my own site meter. It's like patting my own back. Ngek! :)

YOUNG HOUSE LOVE - I'm obsessed with this blog. YHL is a DIY home improvement blog owned by a young couple with 2 children. They live in Virginia. You could say I have blog envy, their site stats are off the roof, you can tell from the entries they receive every time they have a giveaway. They're probably earning mucho moolah and all they have to do is blog about their everyday lives. The envy feels! Ugh! The main reason why I really like this blog though is because of the DIY projects. I want to do that too. Someday.. Someday..
DOOR SIXTEEN - Another DIY home improvement blog but with a very different style from YHL. Her DIY projects ain't as many as YHL but I love her style more and the pictures in her blog are really beautiful.
JOY THE BAKER - Yup, you guessed it - a food blog. Hahaha!! ^_^ A baker chef from New Orleans. Love the food, love the pictures and love her writing.
BOWER POWER - I like this blog for 3 reasons. 1 is because she has 3 hunky looking little boys and I like reading any advice regarding them. 2 is because of the DIY projects. 3 is because she's BFF with YHL's Sherry. Yup, I have loyalty.
MY MUSINGS - Last but not the least, my very own blog. Despite the fact that I don't update very often, I actually log-in to my blogspot account almost everyday to check things out and as I've said to boost my site meter. Also, I believe I'm an interesting enough person so sometimes I re-read my entries and go: "Wow! Ain't I smart or what?". I don't do humble brags here, I brag period and I own it. (snaps fingers)

YOUTUBE

I watch a lot of YouTube videos. Who doesn't? And I have some faves I usually check out. I also wrote an entry in the past regarding YouTube channels that I frequently visit, you can check them out here. But my tastes have changed since then. So, here are my current favorite YT channels..

ERB - Epic Rap Battles of Historeeeeehhhhh! It's fun, educational in a way (?) and the lines and the songs are actually quite good. In fact, the whole production is really well-made. From the costumes, to the graphics to the acting - really nice.
TEENAGERS/KIDS REACT - It's a segment by The Fine Brothers. I don't know why but for some reason I enjoy the kids' reaction. Besides, I feel like I'm learning more about their generation, more about pop culture and it might come in handy in the future when Ilaya starts high school.
HONEST TRAILERS - These videos were made by Screen Junkies. They are hilarious! Check them out, they're epic.
MUSIC VIDEOS PARODY - Videos made by College Humor. Not all of their videos are good though, in my opinion, but I really like the music videos. Especially the one about instagram. :)
SNL - Who doesn't like Saturday Night Live, right? All though I have to admit some of their sketches are pretty bad. However, I love digital shorts featuring The Lonely Island, I love their parodies on political figures/events (Sarah Palin parodies are the best) and I love the segment Weekend Update. I watch SNL via YouTube because we don't have cable. Awwww. :(

Yes, I'm a pirate. I'm pro open-source/open sharing in online communities. So here are the sites that I use to advance the cause.

All though, cyber laws are becoming more more solid especially against piracy so I'm having doubts in giving out links here. So, here's what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna describe the site but I won't post the name nor will I link it to the actual website. Since I usually plug my entries via FB, if you want the site/link PM me. Ayt? Arrrr!

YIFY videos. YIFY is like the new aXXo or the new FXG. Maybe they're the same person, I dunno. Anyway, this site contains all YIFY videos. It's available for downloads or for streaming.
Anime episodes or Manga strips. This site contains all released episodes including specials of One Piece, Fairy Tail, Dragon Ball and Naruto. Good print, Japanese audio and English subtitles. Manga is also available in English.
This site is like a search engine especially made for torrents. It's the pirate Google.
Another site for anime. H and I discovered this when we were looking for good copies of Ghost in a Shell.
Last but not the least, the mother ship. I think you already know what this site is. Hahaha! ^__^

Other websites that I visit don't belong in 1 specific category thus the title 'many more..' coz I'm very imaginative. Anyway, here it goes...

CLICK THE CITY - I usually check this site for available movies in Robinsons or SM City. They give the cinema number, the time and the quality of the print (whether it's 2D or 3D).
YAHOO SHINE - I got this habit from H and it sort of stuck. Besides, my daily extended is always crazy accurate.
WATTPAD - It's a guilty pleasure. Hehehe.. :) Most writers are amateurs and don't proof read before publishing their updates but I'm no grammar Nazi so I can put up with it. Majority of the stories are sappy and under teen fiction which is not very appealing to me now that I'm turning 26. There are some well-written stories in this site though, rare but they're there.
9GAG TV - 9gag.com was the site I frequently visit before, maybe 2 years ago but nowadays the tv version is much more enjoyable and interesting.
LISTVERSE - I'm a list kinda girl. I make a list to make more lists. Yup, I do that. So this site is right up my alley.
EPGUIDES - This site is to monitor TV shows that I'm currently hooked on. They show the number of seasons, number of episodes and their titles, release date, a mini-summary of the show and a preview for every episode via TV rage. Also, it's structured as a search engine so it's very user friendly and internet speed friendly (the site isn't fancy looking so it loads up pretty fast).
BPI - Yes, I do online banking. It's convenient especially for someone like me.
Facebook - Last but not the least Facebook. I use FB for many reasons. To plug my blog entries, to contact faraway friends, to brag about my son, to spy and stalk people without getting arrested, to check out shared links, to get depressed and envious, to feel 'connected', to be 'in', to do hacktivist activities and many more.

So there you have it, my online life.

tuka update - 1 year and counting!

We're officially a toddler. Booyeah! Break it down! ^___________^

As I've promised in the past, I will do as many Tuka updates for as long as I can. I'm thinking maybe until Tuka starts grade school then I'll stop. So for now, here are Tuka's most recent stats..

HEALTH and NUTRITION

Weight: 10 kilos as of June 11, 2014 - he was 1 year and 11 weeks.

Milk: We are currently drinking Enfagrow A+ Lactose Free by Mead Johnson (same maker of Nutramigen). We are drinking an average of 24-30 oz of milk everyday.

Suam: Yes, we are still using suam. We mix it daily with his milk. We are still using organic brown rice.

Our feeding formula goes like this:
-2 oz of water
-7 scoops of milk (Enfagrow milk to water ratio is 1:1; so that's 1 scoop for every 1 oz of water)
-5 oz of suam

Our feeding schedule usually looks like this:

4-5AM: 4 oz of milk
7-8AM: breakfast
9AM: 4-6 oz of milk
11:30AM: lunch
1PM: 6-7 oz of milk
3-4PM: snacks
6-7PM: dinner
7:30PM: 7-8 oz of milk
12MN: 6 oz of milk

I usually adjust the number of oz depending on his solid food intake. I usually just give Tuka whatever food is available on the table unless the dish available has coconut milk. I also don't give him dried fish because it might cause allergies at this stage.

Tuka's current faves are:
-Chuckie (the chocolate milk drink)
-long hair pasta dishes
-Cheezee spread
-plain Skyflakes
-crab and corn soup (by Knorr)
-fish cardillo
-fried tilapia
-TJ hotdogs
-junk food (Nutri Star & Chiz Curls)

MEDICINE and VACCINES

For multivitamins, we are taking Poly Vi Flor drops and PedZinc drops daily.

For vaccines, the only additional shot that we got was for MMR. I gave a list during my last Tuka update entry. You can view the list here. I just use the term shot but some of the vaccines were taken orally but most Moms already know that so moving on..

TEETHING

As of now, tooth #9, #10 and #11 are out. But they're still very tiny but they have broken out of the gums so I'm hoping they will grow a bit faster now since Tuka is more suplado when teething.

We think a #12 and a #13 might follow very soon but we can't really be sure until they break out of the gums.

#9 and #10 are canines and they look so dang adorable. I dunno why but I used to think H's canines were adorable too. Really sharp and very (for lack of a better term) vampire-ish looking. Unlike mine. My canines are dull, not as sharp as Henden's.

Down side though, Tuka doesn't like his teething materials anymore so he just nibble on whatever object he fancies for the day. Like the chair, the table, the broom and many more. I don't stress out over it anymore, it's exhausting. I just brush his teeth really thoroughly 2x a day to make me feel better. Hehehe.. :)

Also, I will start deworming Tuka in August (1 year & 6 mos) to make sure he doesn't have any parasites. All that nibbling might lead to some really nasty worms. So, that's my game plan. Hihihi.. :)

MOTOR SKILLS

I also gave a list of his motor skills during my last update so I'm just going to list the additional skills that he has now.

-Can walk.
-Can run. Sometimes he stumbles.
-Can climb up on things. If it's too tall, usually he falls down.
-Can open and close doors (without locks of course).
-Can climb up on small-spaced stairs.
-Been trying to jump for weeks now without success. Maybe he's too heavy? >_<

On intelligence and fine motor skills, it's a bit hard to describe much less measure. Or make an intelligent calculation on what he can and cannot do. What he knows and doesn't know at this stage.

For example, I once discovered that Tuka was able to lock-in the security straps on his high chair. He only did this once so I'm not sure if he just got lucky or what.

Tuka was also able to arrange his stacker toy (it's a tall toy) in the correct order ON HIS OWN. Without anyone helping him or telling him what goes where. Correct order. Again, only once.

I've also seen Tuka experiment on how to use the remote as if he's really trying to learn how to use it. And many more.

So for now, I don't know and I'm not gonna jump to conclusions. For now, I'm okay with the fact that he's in good shape and usually in a happy disposition. There are a lot of opportunities in the future to train his intelligence. Besides, I believe H and I are smart enough to raise a witty enough child. I mean, H explains dialectical materialism via chemistry. Beat that. ^__^

INTERESTS

RAIN! Tuka loves the rain so so so much! He loves to look at the rain, take a bath under the rain or walk under the rain wearing a jacket or using an umbrella. RAIN - FTW!

Swimming. Basically, Tuka is half fish. Anything with water is interesting for him. Unfortunately, Tuka doesn't enjoy beaches that much because he can't stand the salty water. But he can swim in a pool for hours. Seriously.

Bugs. Tuka loves all-thing buggy or insect-ty. (Did I use that term right? Somebody google this!) Tuka loves ants, caterpillars, butterflies, beetles, horseflies, flies, termites etc.. His all-time favorite are ants.

Tuka loves our dog - Lucifer. He is also fascinated by cats.

Likes mud. Hates semi-wet or dry dirt and sand.

Ghibli films, Mother Goose Club videos, Winnie the Pooh films and Shaun the Sheep episodes.

Fave books as of now - My First 123 Glitter Book, Colours by Jan Pienkowski and a couple of touch & feel books that I got from Booksale.

Monster trucks and dozers. Also, balls. And dinosaurs esp. the T-Rex.

an update, instagram, blog makeover and a little more in between

Okay. This entry is like a little bit of this, a little bit of that all jumbled up together. Hehehe.. :)

I haven't been blogging for a while. (So, what else is new?) :) Forgive me my dear (1 or maybe 2) readers. I've been.. well.. a bit down (that's putting it mildly) lately and I just didn't have it in me to write any entries even though so many things have been happening. So, this is what this entry is for.. The holymother of updates. It's gonna be a bit long, stay with me. ^___^

First off, I have officially resigned from my job of 4 years. I know, I know. Seems like a bad move since I have a son to finance but H and I agreed that it is our best option as of now. By resigning, I get to focus on taking care of Tuka, up-keeping the house (the house was a mess for the longest time), and de-stressing. Also, this will give me an opportunity to find ways to take up political work again which has been my plan since the beginning of the year. Of course, me resigning would mean less income (that's 20-25K/month gone. huhuhu.) but I have already paid off all of my major loans and H promised to work his ass off to tide us over so I am hoping things will work out.

This set-up isn't permanent, I know I'll have to find a job again in the future when things are a bit settled. I need Tuka to have a stable sleeping routine, I need to find a good housekeeper to help me out around the house, I need to organize my schedule so I can take up political work (this is a must since I need something to keep me sane and not feel like an idiot in this fucked up society of ours) and I need to learn how to handle a teenager since Ilaya seems to be becoming one - a teenager! (gasp!)

So, basically that's my life as of now. It's a bit of a mess, so many changes, so many adjustments, so many 'let's try this.. nah.. how about this one? nah..' moments, so many mistakes and screw-ups. It is exhausting but still surviving.

Next, I'm thinking of doing another blog makeover. Just like the one I did last time. Remember this? My header and footer were made by me via Office Paint but it only shows two people. Since, we have Tuka now I was thinking of adding a little boy in my very artistic stick figure painting. But I have a feeling it won't look cute this time around. I don't think I'll get lucky twice. :) I've also been visiting online portfolios of some graphic artists and I really like their online samples. Sadly, they don't give out free samples. Huhuhu.. :( So maybe I'll just keep my header and footer for now and just change the lay-out of the blog. Like, my blog roll list, add an instagram feed on the side, change my about me, make my archive more content specific. Add a bit of this, a bit of that.

I've also been thinking about the content of my blog. It's been very mommy-ish these past 2 years and I'm very happy with that but I want it to be mommy-ish and MORE. Because as a Mother, my life ain't just about cleaning and changing diapers. I want to write about social issues again and how I see it and handle it and most importantly, WHAT I'M DOING ABOUT IT now that I'm a Mother. Again, on top of the usual mommy-ish posts and maybe a little DIY home improvement projects (feeler ako!), and some narcissistic rants. Hehehe.. :)

AND speaking of instagram, I WANT ONE. I seem to be the only Mom who doesn't take constant pictures of her kids. I have missed so so so so mannnyyyy "my kid is awesome" moments and I don't want to miss any more. So for the first time, I am finally thinking of purchasing a smart phone. Yup, I still don't own one. I'm still using an old Nokia model. In black and white and it has a flashlight. Very practical if you live in the Philippines (great for black outs and floods) and if you're a new Mom (Tuka can throw and drop it over and over again and it still works).

So, I am thinking of buying a Sony Xperia. For many reasons.

Waterproof - again this feature for me is important. Flood, rain, rainy rallies and many more.
Scratch-proof is also an important feature because -- Tuka.
Instagram - as I've said, I want one. I will bore and annoy everyone to death by posting so many pictures of Tuka, I'll probably need to post a naked picture of Piolo Pascual from time to time to keep my followers.
Smart phone features (net, email, skype etc) - I can finally do some work via phone like most yuppies do. Very "in" of me.
Touch screen technology/technology period - apparently, studies say that in this day and age it is very important to expose and educate your child to technology as soon as possible. I can't really do that if I don't even know how to use recent and modern day technology.
Lastly, it's Sony. I'm a fan.

Once my smaller financial issues are settled i.e. backlogged bills (guilty!) then I might buy one. Hopefully by the end of the year. Hopefully. If Pnoy isn't an ass it could be next month but alas we have a douche for a president.

Speaking of ASS, did any of you listen/read Pnoy's speech regarding DAP yesterday evening? I did. It was BULLSHIT!

No facts, no figures. WTF?! The only time he mentioned figures was when he was dissing other projects that were questionable. Also, remember that line when he said PDAF and DAP were different? How? He didn't give a factual reason. His only reason was that DAP funds were used in good faith unlike PDAF. Weh? Good faith? We're suppose to take your word for it? Fuck that. Give me proof. Give me figures. Also, that line that started "Wala naman sigurong magdududa.." somewhere along that line, is he dense? I mean, he had to make 2 speeches already because people are doubting. Nagdududa kami BIG TIME.

When people were interviewed later, majority of them said they didn't understand anything about DAP or his speech. You know why? Because that speech was purposely made to confuse the people. And to wage war and threaten the Supreme Court. Hehehe.. >_<

Anyhoo, pol talks will be reserved for later entries. Much longer, angrier and with correct political lines because that's how I roll.

tuka's color themed bday party

Whew! I'm dead beat! But in a good way.. Tuka just fell asleep after a day of partying and I thought I should post an entry about it now while I have time because tomorrow, I'll be working again.

Hooray! Tuka's 1st birthday party was a huge success! If I rate it from 1-10 and 10 is the highest, I'll give it an 8. I'll explain later why it didn't reach the 10 status.

A few months back, I already have a theme in mind and I already know what kind of party I want to throw for Tuka. Sadly, due to unfortunate events I had to drop all of my previous plans. And up until the 20th (2 days before bingo) I really thought I couldn't celebrate Tuka's birthday anymore. I have already resigned myself to the idea that Tuka will turn one and I couldn't even buy a bottle of coke to celebrate it. I was already starting to get depressed. Awwww. Hehehe..

Fortunately, I have the AWESOMEST FAMILY EVER!!!!!!!! Everything was one big giant present from my fam bam. Our birthday cake was a gift from Lola Lu and family. Our spag was a gift from Lola Mommy and family. 30% of our budget was a gift from Lola Mama & family. 70% of our budget was a gift from Lolo Tatay. And because it was last minute everyone was hands-on in preparing the party. Lola Nanay, Lolo Papa, Lola Mommy and Ninong Andoy were our main cooks. Tatay, Lolo Tatay, Lola Mama, Auntie Ilay, Lolo Daddy, Lola Naty and Ninang Ayek were on clean-up, food preparation and decorations. Lolo Kalbo also helped with the dishes in the middle of the party.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO SOOOOOO MUCH EVERYONE! We labs you to the moon and back!

Anyhoo, back to the party. Initially there was no theme. I mean everything was random but at the last minute, I realized there is a common theme among everything that is being prepared for Tuka's party and that is --- COLORS! So I thought, why not a color themed birthday party? I thought it was ridiculous at first, I mean all birthday parties are colorful right? So I did some googling (?) and lo and behold, it's a legit theme. Nyahahaha! Lucky right? So, I went ahead and worked with what I have and here's the result... dan dan dan daaaaaaan...

Other theme related stuff were: colorful straws, colorful table napkins, colorful toothpicks for our mini-hot dogs, and last but not the least - colored flame candles. Yep. Multi-colored fire. Can't get any hotter than that.

Inside the house, in front of the television, where I know kids will hang out and watch TV, I prepared a mini spread of colorful treats. Here is one of them - pin wheel candies. I plopped them all inside Tuka's toy - a rainbow colored magic spring.

Beside the pin wheel candies, I placed a bowl of nips for more colorful treats. Choco rainbow, chocolate nips.

The balloons of course were multi-colored as well. The pabitin and the food too. Our menu was simple (as always), we had fried chicken lollipops, mini-hot dogs, rice, grilled milk fish, fried pork belly, spaghetti, cake, native chicken dinugu-an and native chicken nga may ubad kag kadyos. Softdrinks and hard liquor & beer follow. The native chicken dishes were delish! Lolo Papa had to wake up really early in the morning to buy, kill and cook the chickens. Well worth the effort.

For the kids, aside from the colorful treats mentioned above, I prepared colorful ice pop jellies as well. They were a HUGE hit among the kiddies. Everyone loved them and everyone took home a few as a secondary party favor.

The kids mostly played with the toys scattered all over the house. Sometimes they would watch some shows on TV. Midway, most of them played outside with the outdoor toys (bikes, mini cars, balls). We also did pabitin. Later when we handed out our giveaways - GLOW STICK BANGLES!!, most of them played inside again with all the doors & windows closed to make the house dark.

All in all, the party turned out great. The grown ups enjoyed the food (native chicken dishes), the drinks, gossip, good conversations and mini-reunion .

The kids enjoyed the ice pops, the glow sticks, the toys, the TV, the outdoors, the water from the pump - Jonshu changed clothes thrice (?), each others company (?), the pabitin. I dunno, everyone seemed to be in a good mood. No one cried except for Henden's nephew Earl. Everyone was in an okay mood. Did anyone cry/nagbisyo? I can't recall any episodes from the kids. No tantrums, no nothing. So I take it that's a good sign, right? It means the kids were comfortable? Having fun? I sure hope so..

After the party was over I decided to take pictures of Tuka's 1st birthday presents. I thought this would be a great way to end today's entry - with a THANK YOU. ^__^

So, here's what Tuka got for his birthday. A couple of footwear pictured above, a kiddie mat, a feeding bottle by Pigeon, clothes (some brand new and some handed down from his Manongs), swimming trunks, a DIY artwork and home made birthday cards from the kids and a HUUUGE watermelon. Of course, as I mentioned earlier, the whole party was basically a gift, everything from the cake to the food to the balloons - everything!
